Authorities in China have refuted information in some media that they are planning to ban VPN access to private individuals by February 2018. This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to thepaper.cn.
Earlier, Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, reported that all three state-owned Internet providers - China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom - received a corresponding order. VPN technology allows users to access Internet content through a dedicated server, bypassing filters and constraints imposed by suppliers or authorities, hiding their Internet activity, and more. In China, Internet users often use VPNs to overcome blocking of web resources such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and others.
