Review of the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82 with a 60x zoom

Panasonic announces the Lumix DC-FZ80 camera. In some markets, including the Bulgarian one, the device will appear as the Lumix DC-FZ82. Actually, this is a modified version of the Lumix FZ72. The Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82 has a 60x magnification, a 20-1200mm F2.8-5.9 pancreatic lens and an 18MP sensor. Additionally, the processor has improved, resulting in 4K @ 30p video capture (no more than 15 minutes videos).  Along with 4K, additional post-focusing, focusing, and 4K image modes are available. Video recording can be performed at 240 fps in 640 × 480 and 120 fps in 1280 × 720 pixel mode. The camera shoots frame by frame at a rate of 10 frames per second with a fixed focus. The device is also equipped with a 3-inch 1040k-dot LCD touchscreen display, an electronic viewfinder and a built-in Wi-Fi. The other details will be discussed in the Panasonic DC-FZ82 review.

60x magnification and Lumix DC Vario 20mm lens
The Panasonic CES 2017 introduced the new Lumix DC-FZ80 from the popular FZ series. The camera has a powerful optical zoom, as well as excellent shooting modes, including manual adjustments for video and photo operations. The device has a versatile ultra wide-angle LUMIX DC VARIO 20mm lens that can provide a 60x optical zoom (35mm with an equivalent range of 20 ... 1200mm). Such a lens allows you to capture dynamic landscapes, wildlife and birds from large distances.
A 20mm wide-angle lens captures up to 140% of the space compared to a 24mm lens. POWER O. I. S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) for active stabilization optically stabilizes flicker when shooting by hand. Intelligent Zoom increases up to 120 times (equivalent) while maintaining high image quality combined with digital zoom.

Sensor

The new integrated 18.1 megapixel High Sensitivity and MOS (CMOS) Enhanced Sensor and Venus Engine Image Processor allow for high response speeds and high picture quality, even with high sensitivity.

Serial shooting and autofocus

For faster processing and mobility, the Lumix FZ82 has a high-speed, accurate autofocus with depth-adjusting Depth From Defocus DFD. This technology reduces the focusing time of the image. In the work, the distance to the subject is calculated, and two images of different levels of clarity at high speeds of up to 240fps are evaluated, which results in autofocus for about 0.09 s.
This time increases with the focal length.
Panasonic's camera can take a high-speed serial shot at 10fps in AFS mode and at 6fps in AFC mode to lock the fast-moving subject with clear focus. Thanks to the touchscreen control system, users can quickly focus on a subject and even lower the shutter with the touch control.

Viewfinder

The device is equipped with a 1,040 K-dot screen with a touch-screen function. The electronic 0.2-inch 1.170 K-point EVF (Electronic View Finder) viewfinder captures the various objects in sharp focus. The camera is also equipped with a wireless Wi-Fi adapter and offers instant transfer of the captured material using various accessories to provide flexible control of the shooting process.
For the FZ82, a large number of different devices are provided to ensure high-quality pictures and excellent recording of the subjects in 4K-resolution.

4K photos and video

The Panasonic FZ82 can shoot video subjects in QFHD 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels at 30p) resolution. A powerful 60-fold optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer POWER O. I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), together with Active Mode, greatly suppress image blur. This feature is available for both photo and video capture. The new handset is also equipped with an 18.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor. Image processing is performed at high performance by the LSI Venus processor. And when using new components, the manufacturer guarantees high speed and excellent sensitivity. The use of 4K technology allows users to enjoy photos in 4K PHOTO mode with the new Panasonic DC-FZ82. This mode lets you capture fast and dynamic scenes at 30fps, and at a later stage take the best footage in 4K resolution. Additionally, there is a possibility to save absolutely all high-resolution frames. However, there is a limit - you can shoot and record a maximum of 150 frames for five seconds of continuous shooting.

Focusing

Post Focus mode allows users to select the desired focus area (even during shooting). This feature will be particularly useful in macro shooting where strict focusing is required. The feature is designed for DFD (Depth From Defocus) autofocus analysis and response for 4K autofocus imaging. Both Post Focus and Focus Stacking features can be quickly activated with a special button at the top of the camera.

Shooting options

Taking advantage of the 4K technology, the user can make a great photo shoot in 4K PHOTO mode with different settings. For example, using the new Focus Stacking feature or post-focusing, Light Composition correction or 4K "Live Cropping" adjustment is performed. For creative freedom, the user has Creative Control or creative panorama (Creative Panorama). The camera allows you to shoot QFHD 4K video 3840 × 2160 at 30p or Full HD 1920 × 1080 at 60p AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H. 264) and AF mode. Here is also the 4K Live Cropping cropping feature of the already captured video material. Various variations of video recording are also available to users. You can select high-speed recording, time-saving recording, or animated motion. High speed is possible up to 120 frames per second.

Wi-Fi adapter

The camera described has a built-in Wi-Fi adapter from the IEEE 802.11 b / g / n standard, providing a more flexible process of capturing and instantly sharing photos. Once the special smartphone or tablet application is installed, you will be able to control the camera. The Panasonic Image app is available for iOS and Android. Users can upload captured pictures to different social networks using an accessible wireless network.

Summary

In the closing part of the Lumix FZ82 camera review, we will remind you again that the device is designed to replace the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ72. In our opinion, the main difference between FZ82 and FZ72 is the addition to the new Ultra HD resolution.
