New 64-bit Intel Atom-and attack the smartphone segment
During the MWC 2014 the company announced its new Intel Merrifield platform for smartphones and tablets and revealed details of the next-generation 64-bit quad-core Atom processors for Android mobile devices (Moorefield)
Leaked about a week ago Intel roadmap for the year gaining more confidence in the early days of Mobile World Congress 2014, where, as expected, the company announced its new 64-bit Intel Atom processor (formerly known by the code name "Merrifield") for smartphones and tablets. Along with this announcement, President of Intel Corporation Renee James revealed some more details about the next-generation 64-bit quad-core Atom processors for Android mobile devices - devices codenamed Moorefield.
Merrifield generation, of course, will be offered under the brand name Intel Atom, and the first representative is 2.13-ggigahertsoviyat model Atom ZZ348. It is actually a system on a chip (SoC) with 64-bit support, according to the company "ahead of the competition in performance for applications with high computational intensity, web applications and lightweight performance when editing media files" and providing "best in its class life of the battery. "
Based on 22-nanometer architecture Silvermont processor is equipped with PowerVR Series 6 Graphics IP core from Imagination Technologies. Moreover Merrifield is the first Intel Atom system-on-chip equipped with the new solution Intel Integrated Sensor Solution. Its role is to effectively manage sensor data to support applications in the background, even when the device is in low power mode. Intel expects devices based on Merrifield, start to be triggered by many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the second quarter.
ntel also revealed new details of its next-generation 64-bit Intel Atom processor, codenamed "Moorefield," devices expected on the market in the second half of this year. To a set of characteristics of Merrifield, Moorefield added two additional cores with Intel architecture (IA), operating at frequencies up to 2.3GHz, as well as advanced GPU and system support faster memory. Moorefield is optimized for this year's LTE platform Intel (Intel XMM 7260), which was also presented by the company at the MWC 2014.
